The so-called “pro-life” movement’s philosophy.

One of the best political cartoons that I’ve seen.

You know what pisses me off about this?  Really, REALLY pisses me off?  That’s George (H.W.) Bush holding that umbrella.  He was president 1981-1989.  Do you get that?
It means that the right have not budged an inch on their ridiculous pro-foetus, anti-actual-persons position in THIRTY GODDAMN YEARS. We should not still be having this argument! Thirty year old political cartoons should be bafflingly opaque, not crystal clear!

^ Reblogging again for that comment.

actually Reagan was president from 81-89, H.W. was from 89-93, but Reagan most likely had the same attitude as that picture, but yeah that original point still stands

Gender is a hierarchy.  Gender is oppression.

funny how dudes that don’t even question suffrage don’t realize they are recycling the same boring ass arguments as anti-suffrage males from back in the day

Can’t stop, won’t stop: Protesters in Ferguson rally again, seeking justice for Mike Brown. More than a month and a half after his death, his killer, Darren Wilson, is still a free man. (Pt 2)

Because it wouldn’t be a protest in Ferguson without fuckery from the police. A driver plowed his car through protesters, grazing several and running over a young boys foot. Beyond taking several hours to transport the boy to the hospital, they took even longer to arrest the motorist. Who did they not wait long to arrest? Two of the protesters who had been documenting the altercation for the world to see. If you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention. #staywoke #farfromover #nojusticenopeace

angelsgreed asked: Thoughts on gamergate?

socialjusticeviv:

I believe that GamerGate is a misogynist movement and that even if it wasn’t it is deeply misguided. When you look at who they choose to single out and go after, the list is primarily comprised of women. When it is men, they are going after those men for calling them out and for standing up for the women being targeted.

They went after Phil Fish primarily cuz he was one of Zoe Quinn’s most vocal supporters. When Moot said /v/ wasn’t the place for GamerGate nonsense, they immediately jumped to the conclusion that his girlfriend was responsible for “turning him into a SJW”.

It is not just individuals doing this. Many of those idolized by the movement are misogynist, some of them pretty openly so. (See: Nero) When you look at the voices the movement prioritizes, you consistently see white men and anti-feminist white women like CH Sommers. It’s hardly a coincidence. GamerGate as a movement serves primarily white, male interests, so of course the biggest voices are going to be those people.

While games journalism does also have a pretty big race and gender problem, driving women away from the industry doesn’t help that problem.

Who’s been driven away? Women like Jenn Frank, Mattie Brice, Lana Polansky. Jenn Frank is an amazing writer, but last I saw she seemed to have given up on writing because of this. Mattie and Lana, while not directly targeted to my knowledge, seemed to have given up on being voices in the industry because of this. Many of those currently involved in GamerGate are the same ones who drove Samantha Allen away months ago.

GamerGate would also like very much to drive away Anita Sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn, as well as others. They’ve certainly been doing their damnedest, and I am every day impressed that they remain committed to the industry after all of this.

"But not everyone involved in GamerGate is a misogynist!" I never said they were. What I have said is that the actions and the leaders of the movement are, and that the movement as a whole seems to target based on an overwhelming degree of misogyny.

"But there are women and queers and non-white people in GamerGate!" There are women and queers and non-white people in the Republican Party. Doesn’t change that Republicans want to take away women’s bodily autonomy. Doesn’t change that Republican policy is incredibly anti-queer. Doesn’t change that Republican policy is super fucking racist. Besides, it’s not as tho people can’t be bigoted against groups they belong to. It is in fact possible to be a woman and also a misogynist.

(Please don’t accuse me calling every woman in GamerGate a misogynist when I JUST SAID not all members are misogynist)

"You’re distracting from important conversations about ethics and corruption!" or "You think there isn’t corruption in games journalism?" I do think there is corruption in games journalism. We live in a capitalist society and journalism is a business. I don’t think it’d be possible for there not to be corruption.

However, GamerGate is targeting the wrong people and targeting for the wrong reasons, and doing that doesn’t accomplish anything positive toward stopping corruption. Conversations about corruption and games journalism are nothing new. We’ve been having them since before GamerGate. We just don’t want GamerGate controlling the dialogue. I don’t want them participating in that dialogue at all.

"But what about the good people involved in GamerGate?" I’ve talked to some of them. Given a lot of my energy having conversations with them. Some even helped me report an abusive troll who’s been stalking me for about a week. There are good people, but it doesn’t change what I believe about the movement as a whole.

this sentence is giving me a migraine

Iggy’s gonna be the first real superstar female rapper you guys ignore Lauryn and Missy’s grammy’s and critical acclaim ignore Nicki’s platinum albumS and sell out tours and critically acclaimed mixtapes ignore it all, ms crocodile dundee dropped one mediocre 8 track mixtape and did 2 songs that everyone only knows the chorus too SHE’S the one to watch!!!

The most depressing part of this is that lat month Nicki Minaj actually broke the record for the most appearances as a lead, collaborative, or featured guest artist on the Billboard Hot 100. But nah, forget her, she’s not important, let’s all gush about how successful Iggy Azalea is instead.

What I had for breakfast this morning is more important than Iggy Azalea.

Seriously guys don’t ignore this like the media is.

The City Centre of Glasgow is over run with protesters, people are setting off flares and attacking each other, police tried to form a human barrier to prevent the rioters from spreading, Unionists were burning the Saltire, there are claims that someone may have been stabbed. And the news sites aren’t reporting this.

This city was my home for half a year and it’s absolutely killing me that people aren’t paying attention to what’s going on right now.

Seriously, I watched major news channels for three hours today and this is getting ignored. Only sky news mentioned this, but called it “good humoured” and “boisterous.”

THIS IS NOT GOOD HUMOURED OR BOISTEROUS. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND BRUTAL.

Please get out of the city centre, or if you have to be there, avoid Buchanan Street and George Square. Be safe!

Don’t watch the link I posted if violence is triggering.
